If you have electricity solar panels then Loop will currently show all of your exported energy as imported energy. We are working on a version which is fully compatible with solar panels, please register your interest by dropping Loop support a note.

No, the Loop Electricity and Gas Transmitters communicate to the Loop Receiver over an 868MHz radio link which is a completely different radio frequency to that used by your WiFi network at home. Indeed you do not need WiFi at all for Loop to work, just a Broadband Router for the Loop Receiver to plug into and a power supply.
Not currently. The Loop Gas Monitor uses an optical pick up head to sense the rotation of the gas meter dial. Smart gas meters have an electronic LCD display and so do not have any movement. This means that the Loop Gas Monitor is not currently able to measure gas consumption on a smart gas meter.

To install the Loop Electricity Starter Kit in your home you will need the following:
- A broadband router with internet connection
- A spare electricity socket to power the Loop Receiver or a spare USB port on your broadband router which can also be used to power the Loop Receiver.
- Access to your electricity meter
- An active email account
The Loop Electrcity kit is made up of a blue Receiver, which plugs into an Ethernet socket on your Broadband Router, a grey and purple Electricity Transmitter, which fixes around your electricity meter cables and a black flat plug which is needed to power the blue Receiver.
Your Loop Transmitter is designed to fit round all the common sizes of mains cables used at your electricity meter up to and including 25 mm2 or 12 mm in diameter. The Loop Transmitter should click shut easily around the mains cable.
The Loop Gas monitor is compatible with all common metric and imperial gas meter types with a mechanical register. However, the Gas monitor will not work if you have recently had a Smart Gas Meter installed or your gas meter has a LCD display where you have to push a button to display the readings.

The Loop Starter Kit makes use of modern browser technologies in order to give you a great user experience. This does mean however, that on older web browser versions not all the features of Loop can be used or displayed.
To ensure you can get the most from Loop please use one of the following:

Straight away, the Electricity real time widget will show you immediately what you are using right now in your home and updates every 8 seconds. For dual fuel users the gas usage widget is updated every 15 minutes. The Spend widget also updates every 15 minutes so you will be able to see what you are using and how much it has cost you.
Loop cannot currently measure export energy and therefore it is not possible to use Loop accurately if your household has a micro CHP system. We are working on a version of Loop which supports generation.
Yes, you can also register your loop kit on any PC, Laptop or tablet. Just go to www.your-loop.com and click on Setup.
Yes, The Loop receiver can be used with powerline adaptors available from Amazon and B&Q for as little as £20. Simply connect one powerline adapter to your broadband router and the other to your Loop Receiver. This will allow you to place your receiver closer to your electricity and gas meters to improve the signal strength. If you are having trouble getting the Loop Receiver connected to the Loop Service using a powerline adapter it is worth checking the adapters are working with a PC or Laptop first. If you continue to have problems please contact Loop Support
Your Loop Receiver is designed to operate at 100MBps. It therefore works best if you plug it into a standard network socket and not the socket designed to run at 1GBps. Often your faster 1GBps socket is labelled ‘GigE’ or coloured red.
The Loop transmitters will store your electricity and gas readings for up to 30 days so that it can cope with events such as your broadband router being switched off overnight, a weekend away and even a two week holiday!
However, some features such as reporting progress on your current budget or goal may be affected as without an internet connection, there may not be sufficient data available at the time the system undertakes a progress update.

Loop has included a handy spare network socket on your Loop Receiver. This can be used if you have no spare network sockets available on your broadband router for connecting other devices, e.g. a home computer. If you use the spare network socket provided in the Loop Receiver, remember to keep the Loop Receiver powered up for your other device to have a connection to your broadband router.

The Loop Gas Monitor is designed to operate in a home environment and for the communication range between your gas meter and broadband router to a maximum of 30 metres. This range assumes a couple of walls in between the Loop Gas Transmitter and Loop Receiver unit. If your broadband router is more than 30 metres from your gas meter you can use powerline adapters to get the Loop receiver in range.
Your Receiver has a handy spare network socket built into it. This means that even if all your Router sockets are full you can still use Loop. The video here describes the process
Follow the steps below if you have no free sockets.
- Unplug one of your other devices cables to free up a socket in your Router
- Plug the Loop Receiver's short black cable into the free Router socket
- Plug the cable you have just removed from the router into the free socket on the back of your Loop Receiver.
Yes, your energy company only needs to read the first four/five digits to take a meter reading.
Please enter your Loop registered email address or username on the Forgotten Password page and select Email new password, then allow 5 minutes for the email to arrive at your registered email address. You can then follow the link in the mail to get logged in. When you have logged in using this new password you can change the password to something more memorable on the My Login page.

1- The most common cause of an Electric Loop transmitter not connecting is that it has not been reset. When the transmitter is reset it will flash a RED light on the back once.
2- The Electric Loop transmitter will try to connect the the Loop website for 5 mins. If it cannot connect in this time it stops trying. If there was another reason why your transmitter could not communicate (e.g. the Receiver was not powered on), you will need to reset the Transmitter again to allow it to connect to the Loop website.
3- If your Loop Transmitter is more than 30 meters from your Loop Receiver, or there are particularly thick walls between them, then there may be a signal problem. To give the Loop transmitter the best chance of connecting to the Loop website, please make sure your Loop Receiver is Stood upright.
4- If none of the above have helped to get your Loop Transmitter to connect then please contact Loop support here with your Loop Transmitter serial number.

1- If your blue receiver has no lights on at all, then it does not have any power. The most common cause of this problem is that either the USB power cable is not properly plugged into the power plug, or that the mains socket is not turned on.
2 - If your blue Loop Receiver only has a solid RED light on the back, then it has not connected to your broadband router correctly. The most common cause of this problem is that the network cable from your Loop receiver is not plugged fully into the network socket on your broadband router, it should 'CLICK' into place.
3 - If your blue Loop Receiver has a flashing GREEN light on the back, then it has connected to your broadband router but cannot connect to the Loop website. The most common cause of this problem is that your broadband router has a custom firewall setting which is preventing the connection.
4- If none of the above have helped to get your Loop Transmitter to connect then please contact Loop support here with your Loop Receiver serial number.
Generally a domestic electricity meter will have 4 or 5 cables connected to it. However, some installations will use a special connection block between the incoming cable and the meter. In this case, only 2 cables will be visible. You can connect your Loop electricity transmitter around either of these cables with our recommendation being that you select the cable that is easiest to access.

If you are having trouble receiving a Loop email which contains a link that confirms your own personal email address, check your junk email folder to ensure it has not been diverted from your in-box.
The Product code is the 14 digit number found on the side of the Loop Electricity Kit packaging. It is required to register your Loop Electricity Kit with the Loop Service and begins the process that sets up your Loop account.
The serial numbers for your Loop devices can be found on the side of each device. The serial number should only contain digits 0-9 and the letters A through to F. Each device has its own serial number which will need to be input during registration so that the device can be linked to your Loop account.

The Loop receiver connects to the Loop server on TCP IP Port number 4444. If you have a non-standard home network you may need top allow outbound connections on Port 4444 for the Loop Receiver to be able to connect to the Loop service.
The Loop Starter Kit is an on-line service which keeps you informed on how you are using your energy, when you might be using more than usual and when you may benefit from changing tariff. To do this Loop will tell you rather than expecting you to go and find out what's going on. One way that Loop keeps you informed is by sending you update emails if you choose to configure these.
Your Loop Electricity and Gas transmitters send your readings securely up to the Loop service over the internet via the Loop Receiver. You just require a broadband router connected to the internet for the Loop Receiver to plug into, and a mains socket to power up the Loop Receiver.
The power plug which at first glance looks like a two pin plug, is actually a standard UK 3 pin power plug . The third pin is packed flat to ensure that the Loop packaging is as small as possible. To use the third red pin on the plug, lift up and pull out as far as it goes.

There is not currently an API for the Loop data or an integration with IFTTT, however this is something we have in the pipeline. If you are interested in either of these features please drop a note to Loop Support and we will let you know as soon as they are available.
Both of the Loop Transmitters are powered by a non-replaceable battery with a design life of at least 10 years, so you never have to worry about them. Your Loop Receiver does not have an internal battery and requires a plug-in power supply which is provided in your Loop Starter Kit.

Your Loop Receiver should have a small green light shining if it is powered up and has a connection to the Loop Server.
if no lights can be seen on the Loop Receiver, check your plug top power supply:
There should be a LED light shining on the Loop plug. If the LED light is not on, then there is no power from the socket, check it is switched on. If the plug top power supply has a RED light glowing then power is being supplied to the Loop Receiver.
If a GREEN light is glowing on the plug top power supply then the connection from the plug top to the Loop Receiver is not working. - Check the USB cable is firmly pushed into the plug top.
If you see a RED light on your power plug - it means that it is powering the blue Receiver – all is ok. If you see the GREEN light then no power is going to the blue Receiver – make sure the USB power cable from your blue receiver is plugged firmly into the power plug.

Loop provides full online instructions to set up your Loop and will even let you know that you have installed it correctly.You will notice LED lights flash on the Loop Receiver. You do not need to worry about these, but if you want to know what they are for, read on. The light sequences have the following meaning;
- Solid RED light - The Receiver has power but is not connected to your Broadband Router.
- RED + Flashing YELLOW light - The Receiver is trying to obtain a connection (IP address) from your Broadband Router.
- Flashing GREEN light - The Receiver has successfully connected to your Broadband Router.
- Solid GREEN light - The Receiver has successfully connected through your Router and with the Loop server.

The Loop Apple iPhone App works on Apple iPads. You can find it in the iTunes App store by searching for 'Loop Energy Saver' making sure you have the search set to 'iPhone Only' or click here in Safari on your iPad.
Not currently, however all the great features of Loop are available on a mobile browser on your windows phone.
